From Seoul to Chicago. Designing at the intersection of Architecture and Urbanism.
SANGWON KIM is an architectural and urban designer based in Chicago. Originally from Seoul—a metropolis defined by its vertical density and rapid transformation—he developed a critical lens on the evolution of urban environments. He holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD).
His design inquiry investigates the "gaps" between architecture and the city—overlooked spaces that possess significant latent potential. Advocating for a methodology of "grafting," he explores how the strategic insertion of new ideas can revitalize existing contexts.
Currently, Sangwon balances his professional practice with independent research and educational mentorship, empowering the next generation of designers to articulate their own voices within the global architectural discourse.
